AUSTIN COVE BAPTIST COLLEGE

South Yunderup

In 2014, Austin Cove Baptist College purchased 11.57ha of pastoral land approximately 2km south of South Yunderup. Prior to this, the school had been operating on temporarily leased land.

The purchased land was 2km away from the closest developments, therefore no existing services were available for the site.  David Wills and Associates were commissioned to provide civil and structural engineering design to enable the school to be constructed within the newly purchased land.

We undertook tender administration, site supervision and contract administration for the civil and structural works so that new school buildings could be completed in time specified by the Client and aligned with school activities.  The school commenced operation at new location in February 2016.

Stage 1

Stage 1 consisted of the design, documentation and construction of:
•    Water reticulation
•    Sewer pump station and sewage pressure main
•    Fire protection main
•    Stormwater reticulation
•    Earthworks
•    Access road and carpark
•    Four General Learning Area (GLA) buildings and toilets.

Stage 2
DWA provided architectural, civil and structural design, tender administration, site supervision and contract administration to enable the construction of a two storey 1,000m2 Science Building at the school site.

Additionally we provided project management and engineering services to enable Stage 2 to be completed in February 2018.

The official operation of the building was announced early March 2018 with representatives of the State Government of Western Australia and Shire of Murray being invited to the Grand Opening.

The structural design for the building included concrete tilt panels and steel roof.  The top floor consists of transportable units, which will be replaced with a permanent structure in the future. When replaced, these transportable units will be used elsewhere by the school.

Civil design included the extension of water, sewer, fire and stormwater services to serve the Science Building and connections to the services constructed during Stage 1 of the site development.

Stage 3A - Relocation of existing GLA building and toilet block
Until the start of the development of the permanent Austin Cove Baptist College site, the school was operating from temporarily leased land. All school buildings constructed within the leased area were designed to allow for dismantle of the structures, transportation to and reinstallation at permanent location. The design was prepared by David Wills and Associates, who also supervised construction of the buildings to ensure works adequacy and future transportation of the buildings.

The permanent College site has developed to the stage that the existing buildings from the leased site may be moved to the permanent location not affecting the operations of the school.

Transportation of the existing building from the leased site has been divided into two phases. Phase A covers transportation of one of the existing GLA buildings, while phase B will comprise transportation of all remaining buildings (8 GLA and two toilet blocks).

David Wills and Associates provided structural design for reinstallation of the existing structure and civil design including the extension of water, fire and stormwater services to serve the transported GLA building and connections to the services constructed during previous stages of the site development.

Tender administration, site supervision and contract administration to enable the Stage 3 works is also provided by David Wills and Associates.

It is anticipated that the Stage 3 Phase A works will be completed before commencement of the school year in January 2020.

Stage 4 Recreation Centre

DWA are preparing the design of a new 6,300 square metre Recreational Centre at the school, including Basketball Courts, 50mx25m and 15mx15m covered Swimming Pools and large Gymnasium with associated reception area and sanitary facilities and change rooms.

A new carpark is also being designed which will allow the facility to be used by local community.

Civil design includes the extension of water, sewer, fire and stormwater services to serve the Recreational Centre building and connections to the services constructed during previous stages of the site development.

Stage 5 Auditorium
We are undertaking the architectural and structural design of a new 3,000 seat Auditorium.  This Auditorium has been sized to accommodate large audiences and performances for the school and the local community.
